Advertising prospectus for the KdF car

Once considered an absolute privilege available only to the rich, even owning a car was to become a reality for the average citizen according to Hitler’s plans to increase the standard of living. The KdF-wagen, renamed Volkswagen (“beetle”) after 1945, was affordable and easy to purchase through a savings plan. Since the entire production run was needed by the armed forces (Wehrmacht) for the war effort, distribution to private customers was no longer available. As a result, money previously saved was forfeit.
