"Racial" Persecution

Persecution in Europe

Persecution expanded with the spread of German domination over large parts of Europe. Under the conditions of war the willingness to commit acts of violence and destruction escalated. Some of the Polish Jews were concentrated in ghettos where tens of thousands starved to death. The intellectual and political leadership of Poland was to be eradicated, many Polish children were snatched from their parents' arms and "Germanized". As of 1941 combat against the partisans in the Balkans degenerated into mass murder of sections of the civilian population.
