Hitler Merchandising after 1945

As before, "authenticity" was in demand: Instead of wooden splinters from the fence of the "Fuehrer" house, rubble from the Berghof ruins was now taken home as a souvenir. Such "relics" were sold at kiosks, together with handkerchiefs, picture nails for the walking stick and postcards with Berghof motifs, such as this example from the year 2000 - with retroactive retouches - which might as well have been on sale before 1945: only the flag with the swastika on the left is replaced with the Bavarian white and blue. Press reports about this trade with devotional objects repeatedly drew attention from the authorities. Investigations by public prosecutors routinely had to be closed due to lack of sufficient evidence.
