In rememberance of this date a conference in Berlin offered various perspectives on the outbreak of war, and on the campaign in Poland as a prelude to the war of annihilation.
The conference was organized by the Brandenburg Memorials Foundation in cooperation with the Prime Minister of Brandenburg, the German Foreign Office and the Leibniz Institute of Contemporary History (IfZ). The latter was represented by our Head Sven Keller: He spoke on the three weeks in August 1939 when Hitler decided on war and peace on the Obersalzberg.
Introductions were given by Diemtar Woidke, Prime Minister of Brandenburg, and Magdalena Gawin, State Secretary in the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland. Also representing the IfZ: Frank Bajohr, the head of the Center for Holocaust Studies.
